Australian actor Aaron Pedersen — known from Mystery Road, Jack Irish and every Australian television production where someone intensely stares into the distance while solving crimes — is set to uncover Estonian ancestry in an upcoming episode of SBS’s Who Do You Think You Are?
Yes. Estonia has apparently entered the storyline. And we couldn’t be more excited!
According to SBS previews, the next episode of the long-running genealogy series will follow Aaron Pedersen as he explores previously unknown family history — including Estonian heritage.
Naturally, this immediately caught the attention of the HEIA newsroom, because the words “famous Australian actor” and “Estonian ancestry” appearing in the same sentence might be less common than you think. And yet here we are.
📺 The episode is scheduled to air on SBS on Tuesday, 2 June 2026 at 7.30 pm.

For anyone unfamiliar with the series, Who Do You Think You Are? follows well-known Australians tracing their ancestry across generations, often uncovering dramatic stories, migrations, wartime histories and long-lost family connections along the way. Occasionally there are emotional revelations. Occasionally there are old photographs. Occasionally someone discovers their ancestors survived three wars and a suspiciously complicated shipping route through Europe. And now, apparently, Estonia.
Whether the episode leads to Tallinn archives, old photographs involving serious expressions, or simply a distant family branch with matching blue-black-white jumpers remains to be seen — but we are absolutely intrigued.
The episode will also be available afterwards via SBS On Demand for those who miss the television broadcast or prefer their genealogy discoveries accompanied by buttered popcorn and the pause button.
“Finding out the truth about my family, and finally knowing where I come from, has given me a sense of peace. It’s something I’ve carried for a long time, and now I feel like I can move forward with a clearer understanding of who I am.” – Aaron Pedersen, SBS.
