More jumping, less sitting: Estonia’s biggest gymnastics celebration returns this July

If you’re one of the lucky people heading to Estonia this July, here’s an event worth adding to your calendar. On 4–5 July 2026, Tallinn will host the VII Estonian Gymnastics Festival, bringing together around 3,000 performers for a spectacular celebration of movement, music and community spirit.

Think of it as a little bit like Laulu- ja Tantsupidu (the world famous Estonian Song and Dance Festival) — only with more stretching, jumping and impressive feats of coordination.

Held every five years, the gymnastics festival is one of Estonia’s largest movement and sporting celebrations. This year’s event is particularly special as it coincides with the 125th anniversary of Kalev, one of Estonia’s oldest and most influential sporting organisations.

Event details

VII Estonian Gymnastics Festival – Maaelu Võlu (The Charm of Rural Life)

📅 Saturday, 4 July 2026
🕖 7pm – Performance 1

📅 Sunday, 5 July 2026
🕐 1pm – Performance 2

📍 Kalev Central Stadium, Staadioni 8, Tallinn 10132

The theme, The Charm of Rural Life (Maaelu Võlu), aims to celebrate Estonia’s connection to the land and remind audiences where their food comes from in an increasingly globalised world.

You can expect tractors (!) driving across the stadium, agricultural displays and a variety of rural-life-inspired other surprises woven into the performances. The goal is to bring a little piece of Estonian countryside life directly to the audience.

Behind the scenes, more than 50 people are working alongside chief producer (pealavastaja) Tea Kõrs to bring the event to life. Live performances from well-known Estonian musicians will be part of the program.

For participants, the festival represents far more than a few minutes on the field. Many spend nine months or longer preparing for their routines, training together and building friendships along the way.

The festivities begin well before the performances, with gates opening at 11am on both days. You can also explore the Estonian Health Fair (Tervisemess: Liikuma!) and enjoy a large food area throughout the day.

Whether you’re passionate about gymnastics, curious about Estonian culture, or simply wondering how many tractors can reasonably fit into a stadium, Maaelu Võlu promises a uniquely Estonian experience.
