Synopsis

December Heat - Estonian Film

“Estonia’s lavishly produced historical action drama is based on actual events of a failed Communist rebellion on December 1, 1924, seen through the eyes of young newlyweds Tanel and Anna, who are intervened by the Bolshevik putsch as they attempt to relocate from Estonia to Paris.

With the threat of communist terror a distant memory, the young republic of Estonia has become consumed in its everyday life. Eager for a fresh start and new beginnings, young soldier Tanel sells his wife Anna’s fur coat for train tickets and resigns from the military corps, and makes plans for a promising life in Paris.

On the morning of their departure, the capital Tallinn is taken over by members of the Commintern in an attempt to stage a Communist coup, an event that will determine whether the country remains independent or becomes a part of the Communist Empire. When the attack strikes, Tanel becomes trapped and Anna is taken hostage by a leader of the Commintern, a man she also shares a past with. When Tanel manages to escape, he goes forth to pursue the freedom of his country, his life, and his new wife from the rebels.”
