Sõrve – Estonian Children’s Summer Camp

A nearly 70-year‑young Estonian-Australian tradition held early January at Point Wolstoncroft (NSW), Sõrve brings toddlers to teens (and their ever-patient parents) together for a week of Estonian sports, crafts, culture and campfire lullabies. Organised by the not-for-profit Sõrve Sõbrad and the Sydney Parents & Friends Association, with financial and scholarship support from ECFA/AESL, it’s the one place where a midnight bonfire and a spontaneous folk dance aren’t unusual – even if Mum and Dad are the ones stepping on each other’s toes.

Sõrve offers Estonian-themed experiences through:

  • Estonian language and cultural workshops
  • theme nights, games and performances
  • outdoor and indoor activities

The camp also provides leadership development opportunities and mentoring for young people.

By attending Sõrve, you have a chance to build lifelong friendships in a welcoming space. Sõrve has developed to now cater to participants of all ages – from toddlers with their parents to primary and high school aged children and adults. It is held the from the first Sunday in January each year.
