Melbourne Estonian Society

Melbourne Estonian Society | Melbourne’i Eesti Ühing Kodu

“On 8 February 1914, during the first meeting of the Estonian Society in Melbourne, a draft constitution was approved with the purpose of the Society being “to assemble Estonians in Melbourne and its environs for the common mutual spiritual and mutual support”. This initial version of the early Estonian Society in Melbourne ceased activity in 1920, remaining inactive until 1938, when the revival of the Estonian Society in Melbourne included the Society being named “Kodu” (“Home”); a name which continues to the present day.”

The Melbourne Estonian Society was first established in 1914 but became inactive in 1920 before being revived in 1938 under the name Melbourne’i Eesti Ühing Kodu (“Home”), which it still carries today. Based at Melbourne Estonian House, the society welcomes anyone interested in Estonian culture and language, offering a space to connect, learn, and celebrate traditions. Whether you’re looking to practice Estonian, explore heritage, join an activity group or meet like-minded people, the society fosters a sense of belonging through events, updates, and community gatherings.
