On the shores of the Gulf of Finland, the ancient Finno-Ugric peoples originated a singing tradition of mysterious power called the Regilaul. Against the stunning setting of modern Estonia, this film explores how Regi songs still fire the imagination today, weaving together people and nature through song.

THE KAPLINSKI SYSTEM 2012 [R]

One way to get a handle on Jaan Kaplinski is to read his poems and essays. This film however, poetically explores what lies beyond those written works.
French film maker Raphael Gianelli-Meriano interviews Kaplinski to scrape away at the man himself.
Is he a poet and Nobel Prize nominee, former government minister of re-independent Estonia, essayist, translator, taoist or linguist? Ecologist? Father, son, husband, or lover? Or some heady mix of all these?
Jaan Kaplinski is at a turning point in his life and career, in turns vulnerable and determined. He shares with us this very specific time in his life and invites us to feel his very pulse.

And remember:

bring a friend, bring a relative even if they are non-Estonian speaking because ALL FILMS HAVE ENGLISH SUB-TITLES!!! EVERYBODY is invited!

Finger food and bar service will be available on the night.

kino! is run by Estonian Film Australia Inc. which is a non-profit organisation. All proceeds from the kino! at Estonian House Sydney go towards the future of the Estonian Film Festival of Australia (EFFA) and facilities for kino! @ Estonian House Sydney.
