Kooskõlas (Together in Song) brings together singers from across Australia to celebrate Estonia’s rich choral tradition. Founded in 2012 to prepare for participation in Estonia’s Laulupidu (Song Celebration), the choir successfully auditioned and travelled to Tallinn for the XXVI Laulupidu in 2014 under the direction of Rachelle Elliott.
Reformed in 2017 as a national ensemble, Kooskõlas attracted singers from New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory. Under the direction of Dr Naomi Cooper, the choir successfully auditioned for the XXVII Laulupidu in 2019, which celebrated 150 years of Estonia’s beloved song festival tradition. Kooskõlas later expanded to include singers from Western Australia and performed at the XXVIII Laulupidu in 2025.
Today, Kooskõlas remains active through a combination of face-to-face and online rehearsals, continuing to strengthen connections between Australian Estonians through music. The choir has appeared at festivals and concerts around Australia, including Eesti Päevad, the National Folk Festival in Canberra, the Canberra Multicultural Festival, the Blackheath Choir Festival, Choralfest, the Galston Concert Series, and performances with renowned Estonian composer and pianist Rein Rannap.
Kooskõlas is a community that brings Australian Estonians together through song, friendship and a shared cultural heritage. By connecting singers across vast distances, the choir helps strengthen ties both with one another and with Estonia itself – truly living up to its name: Together in Song.
