Kino at Estonian House Sydney – 31st of May

‘Seenelkäik’ (Mushrooming), Friday the 31st of May, 7pm [R]

kino-may-31-smallA film by Toomas Hussari

When a nervous and smarmy politician, Aadu Kägu and his wife Viivi, take a trip to the forest to collect mushrooms and take a break from a nerve-wracking image campaign, they are joined by a random, penniless hitch-hiker – the rock star Zäk – who has been left behind after a summer tour through Estonias small towns.
Trying to avoid forests overpopulated with mushroomers, the group ends up in the middle of nowhere in a wild and deserted forest. At the same time as the threesome discover they are lost, a media scandal erupts. Journalists investigate whether politician Aadu Kägu has been misusing public funds for his own, private good.
Mysterious characters in the forrest (and in the city) lead to a fight for honour, life and death.

Layered in metaphor to emphasis the current state of the nation not only in Estonia, but really, the rest of the western world, ‘Seenelkäik’ truly lives up to the credits that have proceeded it throughout the world, and deservedly made it Estonias choice of entry into the 2012 Academy Awards for best foreign film (even if it didn’t make it to the final cut).

Staring: Raivo E. Tamm, Elina Reinold, Juhan Ulfsak and Ott Sepp

Food and drinks are served at Estonian House on the night.

Doors open at 6pm and the main film rolls at 7pm.

Tickets are $7 pp at the door.

SES members $5.
