Kooskõlas seeks new singers for Laulupidu 2028

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to stand among tens of thousands of singers at Estonia’s world-famous Song Festival, Laulupidu? For Australia’s national Estonian choir Kooskõlas, that dream has already become a reality three times – in 2014, 2019 and 2025 – and preparations for the next journey are about to begin.

The road to Laulupidu 2028 begins this August, and Kooskõlas is inviting singers from across Australia to join the next chapter of its Laulupidu story.

Kooskõlas will hold its next national rehearsal on 8–9 August 2026 at the Estonian Church in Strathfield in Sydney, marking the start of preparations for the XXIX Laulupidu in Tallinn in 2028. The August rehearsal weekend will introduce new repertoire and begin the choir’s next three-year journey towards Tallinn.

There is also a practical reason for joining now. Registrations for the XXIX Laulupidu open on 15 September 2026 and close on 31 October 2026, meaning the coming months will be an important time for Kooskõlas as it prepares its singing roster for the 2028 festival.

With preparations already underway, the August rehearsal weekend offers an opportunity for prospective members to meet the choir, learn more about the journey ahead and become part of Australia’s next Laulupidu delegation.

If you love singing and would like to be part of an inspiring musical community, we’ll help you every step of the way. 💖

Kooskõlas is first and foremost a community choir. While preparations for Laulupidu 2028 are now underway, participation in Estonia’s Song Festival is entirely optional. Many members sing with Kooskõlas for the music, friendships and performances throughout Australia, while others choose to continue on to Estonia as part of the Laulupidu experience.

Kooskõlas (Together in Song) brings together singers from across Australia who share a passion for Estonian music, culture and community.

Founded in 2012 to prepare for participation in Laulupidu, Kooskõlas has grown into a national choir connecting singers from across Australia through a shared love of music, community and Estonian culture.

As a national choir, Kooskõlas connects singers from across the country through a combination of online and face-to-face rehearsals. Most rehearsals take place via Zoom, making it possible for members to participate regardless of where they live, while national rehearsal weekends provide opportunities to sing together in person.

The choir is encouraging both returning and new singers to join. No previous choir experience is required.

The only requirement? A willingness to sing.

You don’t need to be Estonian. 🇪🇪
You don’t need to read music. 🎵
You don’t need extensive choir experience. 🎶

Members come from a wide range of backgrounds and all corners of Australia. Throughout the year, the choir performs at festivals, concerts and community events around Australia, including Eesti Päevad, the National Folk Festival, the Canberra Multicultural Festival, the Blackheath Choir Festival and Choralfest. Some have sung at every Laulupidu with Kooskõlas, while others are preparing for their first Song Festival. Some join through family connections to Estonia, while others are drawn by the music, friendships and sense of community.

Twice each year we come together for national rehearsals, and our next gathering in Sydney marks the beginning of our preparations for Tallinn 2028.

Whether you’re a current singer, a former member, or someone who has always been curious about joining a choir, Kooskõlas would love for you to come and be part of its next chapter — whether that means singing at local performances, building new friendships, or one day joining the journey to Laulupidu. ✨

Curious? We’d love to hear from you. Email kooskolas@gmail.com or follow Kooskõlas on Facebook or Instagram.
