From Estoworld:

The XII ESTO Days will be taking place in Helsinki, Tartu and Tallinn in 2019 and for the occasion, there will be a joint exhibition; in preparation, the Estonian National Museum and the Museum of Estonians Abroad are asking for help from all of those who have participated in ESTOs.

The museums are interested in memories as well as photos, films, advertisements, programs, souvenirs, letters sent home or to friends, postcards and other material.

A questionnaire to help in writing down memories is available on the websites of the Estonian National Museum and the Museum of Estonians Abroad.

The museums also welcome all other memories and impressions about the ESTOs. The memories may be in either Estonian or English.

Materials sent to Estonian National Museum will stay in its collections, so the researchers can use them later. The museum has also collected compatriots’ memories on the topic of “Fleeing the Homeland. The First Decade in Exile”, “Estonians Abroad 1955-2000”, “Trips to Soviet Estonia” and “Letters from Far Away”.

Council of Estonian Societies (AESL) 100 dollars club open

DONATIONS INVITATION – Council of Estonian Societies (AESL) 100 dollars club open!

AESL Annual Appeal

Thank you to all that have already made their donations.

As soon as the first $1,500.- was collected, we paid this out to help Kooskõlas choir – for Australian Estonians to be represented in next year’s Song and Dance Festival in Estonia. There are many Estonians in Australia – but this means nothing in itself, we are people like everybody else in this multicultural society. What makes us “Estonians”, is coming together as such, is valuing our customs, is preserving our traditions, is organising and coordinating our activities in a way that takes us forward into the future as a society of Estonians in Australia.

At the end of this year, we come together from all over Australia, to continue our tradition of Eesti Päevad. We have done so since the event was first held in 1954. Times change – these days we not only have the best of our culture groups entertain us, but also invite performers from Estonia.

I am sure our $100 club and all people who donate are happy to know that they are a part of Eesti Päevad turning out to be a successful event!

Followed by Eesti Päevad in December, we support Sõrve Camp held in January 2019. This is a fantastic opportunity for children in Australia of Estonian background to experience and share the heritage – for the 65th time! To keep the camp going is a year round work that also grows our next generation leaders besides of being an unique event for Estonian children. Who would not like to support this to continue for many years to come.

Many argue if we still need our newspaper, all information these days being available on web. Meie Kodu is still the only place where OUR events are published, in one place, where week after week we see and read what the Estonians in Australia have been up to. We will continue supporting Meie Kodu newspaper as long as we can, at the same time further developing our websites and pages.

Our archive support goes without saying, being the memory of all our activities and people involved throughout our history.

In 1952 when established, the constitution stated the purpose of AESL as coordinating the Estonian organiations’ activities in order to preserve and develop the Estonian culture in Australia (etc). Teaching the language has always been one of the priorities. Without taking anything away from the importance, we notice that the folkdance, choir, craft activities do not receive AESL funding, yet their contribution and continuity is no less important. All support comes down to the monies available to us.

In 2018 we celebrate 100 years of declaration of Estonian independence. AESL has been an active part in this, coordinating many events that involved performers from Estonia and also providing a memorable gift for Estonia 100.

We also want to be a part of Estonian World Organisation’s (EWO; ÜEKN) actions.

Money makes the world go round. Can we lift our game?

If you are in a position today, where your income allows support what means being Estonian in Australia, please do so. After all, we are thankful for our good old Estonian genes, aren’t we?

Please join the AESL Annual appeal $100 club today!
Cheques/Money Orders please make out to Council of Estonian Societies in Australia and post to AESL treasurer: Regiina Rohan, Suite 16/333 Canterbury Road, Canterbury VIC 3126

THANK YOU – Your donation counts, and makes a difference.

RAHVUSKAPITALI KORJANDUSE VIIMANE ULESKUTSE SEL AASTAL – KAS ASTUD $100 DOLLARI KLUBISSE?

Austraalia tõmbab eestlasi – meid elab siin palju.

Paljud meist on korralduse juures, väga paljud osalevad, kuid igaüks meist saab Eesti Päevade kordaminekule käe alla panna oma rahalise toetusega.

Laagri vedamine on aastaringne ühistegevus, kus varasematest laagrilastest on saanud tänased liidrid, varasematest liidritest tänased vanemad.

Kas soovime toetada eestlaste ajalehte Austraalias Meie Kodu? Tahame ikka toetada – kuniks vahendeid. Meie Kodu on ainus paik maailmas, kus meie, Austraalia eestlased kajastame oma tegemised, pilguheiteks meile endile ning kogu maailmale. Jätkame info koondamist veebilehtedel, kuid ka paberkandjal.

Arhiivi, meie ühismälu toetamise vajadus on selge sõnadetagi.

Estonian Volleyballer Players Wanted – Indoor or Beach for Sydney and Eesti

ESTONIAN VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS – INDOOR OR BEACH

Volleyball

I am wanting to find all Estonians who are currently playing volleyball, whether beach or indoor.   If you play, please email me at Juho.Looveer@gmail.com with your name, age, whether indoor or beach, and some idea of what levels you play.

Two reasons:  to see if we have enough people interested in playing at Eesti Päevad in Sydney at the end of the year; and to see if anyone is interested in playing at Esto 2019 in Eesti next year, probably in the week before Laulupidu (or the week before?)

========================================

Palun saatke aadressil Juho.

About

After its restoration of independence in 1991, Estonia faced significant challenges including a low standard of living, limited infrastructure and a weak economy. Almost 30 years later, and with a population of just 1.3 million, Estonia is leading the world through the digital age with a bureaucratic system that puts its citizens first.

The charge was led by Taavi Rõivas, the country’s former Prime Minister and the European Union’s youngest high ranking official.

Rõivas’ time in government led to the first large-scale implementation of a Finnish-designed national identity system. Unlike Finland where the national identity system had a disappointing launch due to ID cards being optional and a prohibitively high cost for users, in Estonia, every aspect of the system puts people first.

This approach has led to one of the most efficient and streamlined bureaucratic systems in the world.

While the rest of Europe and indeed the world is still working to overhaul legacy government systems, residents of e-Estonia can file a tax return in five minutes or track their energy consumption in real time via the award-winning app Eesti Energia. Elections in the country have enabled online voting since 2005.

The system is also saving lives; paramedics now have access to an e-ambulance app which allows immediate access to patient medical records in emergencies. In addition, citizens can receive digital prescriptions from their doctors, apply for government aid, such as maternity leave, create a new company in less than 18 minutes while students can check their grades online.

The Estonian state currently offers 600 e-services to its citizens and has declared internet access a human right.

In the past decade, no breaches of security have been reported, and the system backs up to servers in Luxemburg which would allow the Estonian government to continue functioning during natural disasters or other times of upheaval.
