INVITATION TO THE GENERAL MEETING OF THE ESTONIAN SOCIETY OF SYDNEY INC.

The annual general meeting (AGM) of the Estonian Society of Sydney (ESS) will take place on Sunday March 20th at 3pm, at the Estonian House, 141 Campbell St, Surry Hills.

3. Summary of activities in 2015
4. Auditing committee’s report
5. Approval of the Annual report
6. Election of new members of the executive committee

On the upcoming AGM, the 2 year period runs out for five members of the executive committee:Tiina Tamm, Aet Madison, Juhan Lübek, Peeter Muttik and Allan Taruste (Replacing Jüri Perendi). New candidates are always welcome. To nominate someone, please fill in the Nomination Form and return by 6pm on March 13th to liisa@aerotravel.com.au

Fi Glover and digital guru Martha Lane Fox look at the digital revolution pioneered by the government in Estonia – where people vote, get their medical prescriptions even pay for their parking, online. With the help of Professor Henrietta Moore from the Institute for Global Prosperity and Taavet Hinrikus from Transferwise they ask – could it work where you are?

Estonia’s digital services have revolutionised the country since its independence from the Soviet Union with 600 services now being available online. E-Estonia has the fastest broadband speeds in the world, was the first to allow online voting in a general election, all classrooms are online, all medical records online, and it has more start ups per person than Silicon Valley in California. But does the networked society come at a price?

Invitation to explore Estonian health technology research “Health Technologies 2.0”

The Estonian Research Council in cooperation with Estonian Public Broadcasting is inviting fifteen international journalists to Science visit “Health Technologies 2.0” to explore Estonian health technology research, from 25–27 May 2016.

Estonian researchers are key players in solving problems like infertility, aging population and the lack of quality food. They also deal with challenges like cattle health and breeding efficiency, personalized usage of genetic information, ownership and security of health data. With ever growing global emphasis on prevention of medical problems and development of non-invasive health technologies, it’s easy to see that Estonian health and ICT researchers have their hands full.

On the three days of the trip, journalists will meet with outstanding medical and ICT researchers in Estonian universities and will visit places like Estonian Genome Center and Research Centre of Organic Farming. In addition, the journalists will have a chance to interview researchers on site and meet with Estonian journalists to swap ideas.

Also, the passports and ID cards which have been ordered earlier and which information has been sent to owners, will be delivered.
